Therapeutic Massage Division

Dr. Basch would like to announce the grand opening of the Therapeutic Massage Division of The Spine and Orthopedic Center of New Jersey. Along with medical care, those patients recovering from surgery and other injuries and conditions will be treated with, physical therapy, and hot stone massage therapy . Besides the healing affect of massage therapy our patients and clients will have the side benefit of a "reflexive" affect on your whole system. This is similar to the "refreshed" feeling we get after our morning shower. To our bodies, a therapeutic massage is like a complete automotive tune up is, to our a car.

Increase Blood Circulation
Massage therapy increases the blood circulation to all areas of the body. This is especially important and when we have a pulled, overworked, or under worked muscle area. Our blood carries everything the body needs to heal and repair damaged tissue from minor muscle pulls or strains. However the tightness of an injured area constricts the large and small blood vessels in that area. That limits the amount of blood that reaches the injured tissues. Heat and massage opens up the blood vessels to maximum flow and allows the body to heal itself. A muscle area receiving limited blood flow will usually have the feeling of a dull ache. On a stressful day we have all had that pain in our temples on the sides of our head. Many times this is caused by tight neck and jaw muscles limiting blood flow to the temporalis muscle on the side of our head. Next time that happens try loosening you jaw and self massaging the entire side of your head from jaw through the temple.

Stress Reduction
"Ouch!! I just banged my finger". The first thing we do is shake and rub our finger. Then we put our finger in our mouth. What's the first thing you do when you bang your head? Instinctively we all have been using the healing affects of heat and massage. Massage therapy can be extremely helpful to our body while it heals from surgery and or various injuries and conditions. However it can't compare with the powerful effect massage has against our bodies worst enemy. We all suffer from it even mildly, and a serious case can lower your immune system dramatically. If you do have not guessed what it is, the answer is STRESS. For the average busy working person, a weekly stress reducing massage will become a one hour vacation they will look forward to. For that same person who lives with pain on a daily basis their visit to the massage therapist will represent relief so effective it can only be felt, not described. A person who lives with daily pain has extreme levels of tension and stress. The reduction of this stress and tension through massage therapy vastly improves their quality of life as well as assist in their healing process.
